The Sermon on the Mount concludes in Matthew 7:24-29 with the picture of two builders: one wise and one foolish. Both hear the words of Jesus, but only one does them. This final message brings the whole series to its conclusion by showing that hearing Christ’s words is not enough if they are not received with faith and lived out in obedience.

The wise builder builds on the rock, and when the rain, floods, and winds come, the house stands. The foolish builder builds on sand, and when the storm comes, the fall is great. This image reminds us that foundations matter long before the storm arrives. A shallow foundation may appear adequate in calm weather, but trials reveal what has truly been built beneath the surface.

This message closes the series by calling us to build on Christ, hear His words, and do them. The Sermon on the Mount is not merely a collection of ideals to admire. It is the King’s instruction for kingdom life. The people were astonished because Jesus taught with authority. That same authority still calls us today to repentance, obedience, faith, and a life founded on the Rock.
