James 1:21-27 calls believers to lay aside filthiness and wickedness and to receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save the soul. This study begins by showing that the Christian life is not merely about hearing religious instruction. We are called to put away the works of the flesh and humbly receive the living Word of God as those who desire to be changed by it.

The message presses into the seriousness of taking up the cross daily. To follow Christ means denying self, putting to death the desires of the flesh, and coming to Scripture without a pre-planned agenda. We do not come to the Bible merely to confirm what we already think. We come to hear from God, to be corrected, searched, humbled, and led in truth.

James warns that hearers only deceive themselves. Like a man who looks in a mirror and then forgets what kind of man he is, a person may hear the Word and still walk away unchanged. The implanted Word is meant to expose, renew, and transform us. This message invites us to approach Scripture with humility and to let the Lord show us what must be laid aside so that Christ may be formed in us.
