James 5:1-6 is one of the strongest warnings in the letter. James speaks to the rich who have hoarded wealth, lived in luxury, withheld wages, and oppressed others. This message does not treat wealth itself as automatically sinful, but it does take seriously the danger of riches becoming an idol, a weapon, or a means of crushing those beneath us.

The study shows that God sees injustice. The cries of cheated labourers reach the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. Wealth that seems secure can rot, corrode, and testify against those who trusted in it or used it selfishly. James is not offering a polite financial principle. He is warning that unrighteous wealth, greed, and oppression will be brought before God.

For most listeners, the direct condemnation may not describe their situation exactly, yet the heart warning still matters. We must guard against the desire to acquire at any cost, to use people for profit, or to measure life by what we possess. This passage calls us to hold money with fear of God, practise justice and generosity, and remember that every earthly treasure is passing away.
