Colossians 1:19-23 -Fullness, Peace, and Continuing Grounded in the Gospel

Colossians 1:19-23 continues the great declaration of Christ’s supremacy by showing that all the fullness of God dwells in Him. Jesus is not a partial revelation of God, nor a secondary spiritual figure. It pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

This study then brings the truth very close to home. We were once alienated, enemies in our minds by wicked works, yet now Christ has reconciled us through His death. The goal of that reconciliation is astonishing: to present believers holy, blameless, and above reproach in His sight. The message uses the idea of reconciliation to show how the debt of sin has been dealt with, the barrier has been removed, and the account has been made right in Christ.

Paul also speaks of continuing in the faith, grounded and steadfast, not moved away from the hope of the gospel. This is not meant to crush the believer with fear, but to strengthen confidence in the true work of God. Those who are in Christ are called to abide in Him, remain rooted in the gospel, and reject every voice that would move them away from the sufficiency of the cross.
