Colossians 1:24-29 closes the first chapter by showing Paul’s sacrificial service for Christ and His church. Paul rejoices in his sufferings, not because suffering is pleasant, and not because Christ’s atoning work was lacking, but because he is willing to endure hardship for the sake of the body of Christ. His afflictions were tied to his faithful ministry and testimony, not to foolishness or self-inflicted trouble.
The message then turns to the mystery once hidden but now revealed to the saints: Christ in you, the hope of glory. This is a breathtaking truth, especially for Gentile believers who were once without covenant hope. The same Christ who is before all things, through whom all things were made, and in whom all things consist, now dwells in His people by the Holy Spirit.
Paul’s ministry is summed up in warning every person and teaching every person in all wisdom, so that every believer may be presented mature in Christ Jesus. This study reminds us that Christian ministry is not about comfort, platform, or personality. It is about Christ being preached, the church being built up, and believers growing toward maturity by the mighty working of God within them.
