This second message on the Lord’s Prayer continues through Matthew 6:5-15 by looking at the practical petitions Jesus teaches His disciples to pray. Having begun with God’s name, kingdom, and will, the prayer now brings our daily needs, sins, relationships, temptations, and dependence before the Father.
The message considers the request for daily bread as a reminder that we depend on God for what we need, not merely for spiritual matters but for life itself. It then moves to forgiveness, showing that those who have received mercy from God must not hold unforgiveness as a settled posture toward others. Prayer brings us before the Father, but it also searches our hearts and relationships.
Finally, the prayer asks for deliverance from temptation and evil. This is a humble recognition that we are not strong enough in ourselves. We need the Lord to lead, guard, forgive, provide, and deliver. This message calls us to a life of daily dependence, practical repentance, and prayer that trusts the Father’s wisdom more than our own.
