Colossians 1:9-14 -Wisdom, Worthy Walking, Strength, and Thankfulness

Colossians 1:9-14 gives us one of Paul’s beautiful prayers for the church. He does not merely pray that the believers would be comfortable, successful, or relieved from every difficulty. He prays that they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. This is the kind of prayer that reaches deeper than circumstances and aims at spiritual maturity.

The message shows that wisdom is not given so that we may simply make better earthly decisions. God gives wisdom and spiritual understanding so that we may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. Paul then prays for strength, not merely for great achievements, but for patience, long suffering, and joy under pressure.

The prayer ends with thankfulness for salvation. The Father has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints, delivered us from the power of darkness, transferred us into the kingdom of His Son, redeemed us through Christ’s blood, and forgiven our sins. This study invites us to pray differently: for our families, our churches, and ourselves, that we would know God, walk with God, endure with joy, and never forget what He has already done.
