This final message in the three-part Beatitudes series looks at Matthew 5:9-12, where Jesus speaks of peacemakers and those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. These verses bring the Beatitudes to a powerful conclusion. The character of the kingdom is not merely inward and private. A life shaped by Christ will eventually be seen, and at times it will be opposed. Jesus does not hide this from His disciples, but teaches them to see even persecution through the lens of eternity.
We consider what it means to be a peacemaker, not merely someone who avoids conflict, but someone who seeks the peace of God, speaks truth in love, and reflects the heart of Christ. This is not passive weakness. It requires courage, conviction, and a willingness to stand for what is right even when it is costly. The message also reminds us that opposition for Christ’s sake is not a sign that something has gone wrong, but part of our union with Him.
The closing emphasis is joy under trial. Jesus tells His people to rejoice and be exceedingly glad, not because persecution is pleasant, but because the reward is in heaven and the believer belongs to Christ. This message calls us to faithfulness, courage, and hope, remembering that the world may reject the way of Christ, but the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who follow Him.
